Youth Activities
St. Matthew's has a dynamic Youth program. Our youth always have something new and exciting
going on. Come on over and check it out!
UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship)
Youth grades 6-12 meet weekly on Sundays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The group grows
in faith through a variety of fellowship, worship, and active learning experiences.
The group usually meets in the upstairs Youth Room in the Oliver Building, or in the
Fellowship Hall, with occasional activities off campus. Many additional activities are
planned throughout the year including lock-ins, retreats, district rallies, summer camp,
praise band, and mission opportunities. The group is open to members and nonmembers
alike, and visitors are always welcome.
Youth Missions
Annual Youth Mission Trips include service projects, fellowship activities, and
praise and worship services. Middle School ages have participated in Big House
mission trips in the summer, while High School aged youth have worked with the
U.M. Army. Our youth also take part in other missions as they come up
during the year.
Summer Youth Camps
Each summer, Youth from our church join with over 600 of their peers in an inspiring
and exciting Youth Camp in the beautiful piney woods at Lakeview Methodist Campgrounds,
near Palestine, Texas. Summer camp is for Youth entering 5th through 12th grades.
Confirmation Class
Sixth grade students meet with the Senior Pastor on Sunday afternoons for a period of
weeks during the school year. These classes lead each youth to form a personal faith decision
as a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. A tailored program is also available for
older youth who wish to become church members.
God Squad
This group is composed of a mix of youth and
adults. They meet for practice at 5:00 p.m. most Sunday evenings in Fellowship Hall. The group
includes singers and welcomes performers of all musical instruments.
They perform in Sunday morning worship
and at other times through the year.
Youth-Led Worship
On several occasions during the year, the Youth plan and lead special Worship services.
This is regularly done on Easter, with an Easter Sunrise service. A youth-led Advent service
starts off the Christmas season, usually in the first week of December.
